Launched in September 2015, Udyog Aadhaar was a significant reform in how India registered its small businesses. Udyog Aadhaar had no connection to PAN or GST databases, making it impossible for the government to track enterprise growth or classify enterprises accurately.

Current Status of Udyog Aadhaar

Udyog Aadhaar is no longer valid for new registrations. Banks, government procurement departments, and scheme administrators now require the Udyam Registration Certificate — not the Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum — as valid proof of MSME status.
